My friend Adam and I were biking along Newport Beach from just after the river jetty to Balboa Pier. It was a gorgeous late afternoon Spring day, but a bit windy.

Between the Newport Beach Pier and the Balboa Pier is a stretch of black top for the local school to play basketball and other activities right on the edge of the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

Turns out “a bit windy” is great for Land Windsurfing also known as Windskating. We stopped when we spied a couple people Land Windsurfing which is a sport that has been around a long time.

I got to try Land Windsurfing once long ago as a young man in Long Beach along the bike trail after a Hobie Cat Regatta. One of my Hobie Cat Racing friends, Terri McKenna, who has always had great toys, let me try her rig.

My friend Adam, always chatting everyone up, started talking to the sailors. A great guy, Jack I think he said his name was, offered to let us try it. I of course jumped at the chance. It has been awhile since I have been on anything with a sail, and I pretty much love everything with a sail- so I was certainly game.

It went pretty well. I could do it, but I must admit the reason that in the video it doesn’t show me doing any turns or maneuvers is that I couldn’t lol. It would take a little more practice for that, but I was having a ball. Jack was an expert from days gone by and in the video you can see just how much fun being proficient can be.

Also sailing the pavement were a few Wingskaters, which is something that is new. I had seen Wingsailors out on the water the last couple of years or so, but this was the first time I saw them on the black top. They were all quite good, and it looked “awesome dude”!

Thanks for joining me and my friend Adam, who did the camera work and the commentary for the video. It was a pleasant ride along the beach that turned into Adventure Sailing. You never know what you might run across when you are ‘Pursing Balance Through Adventure’ and luckily I had enough muscle memory and balance to still windsurf this time on pavement. I invite you to stick with us for more adventure by doing a few very easy things, much easier than maneuvers Windskating: LIKE, FOLLOW, COMMENT and SHARE. If you go to the menu above you will discover that ‘Pursuing Balance Through Adventure’ ventures all over this great West of ours seeking out the Balance that we all need not only for Land Windsurfing, but in our daily work a day, rushing here and there lives. Adventures in Nature can bring some of that Balance. I encourage you to put down the video games and go live a video game, but in Nature. The menu will give you some ideas. It is categorized mostly by location, but sometimes by activity. Each is a separate website and thus needs to be FOLLOWED independently. The hat that I am wearing is part of my Adventure Wear Line of top quality hats and shirts, stop by SHOP APPAREL and pick yourself up a set.
